Hard ferrite magnets (HF)

Cost-effective, corrosion-resistant magnets for general-purpose applications.

Also known as ceramic magnets – are made primarily from iron oxide combined with either strontium or barium carbonate. They are among the most widely used permanent magnets due to their low cost, good corrosion resistance, and high temperature stability.

Although their magnetic strength is lower than that of rare-earth magnets like NdFeB or SmCo, ferrite magnets are ideal for applications where strong fields are not essential, but durability and affordability are key.

Common applications include electric motors, loudspeakers, holding systems, refrigerator seals, sensors, advertising displays, and toys. Hard ferrites are brittle and typically manufactured by sintering, available in standard shapes such as discs, rings, and blocks. They maintain magnetic stability up to about 250 °C and are highly resistant to moisture and chemicals.
