SmCo Magnets

Samarium Cobalt magnets (SmCo) are part of the rare-earth magnet family and are known for their high magnetic strength combined with excellent thermal stability and corrosion resistance. While generally less powerful than neodymium magnets, they perform significantly better in high-temperature and harsh environments.

SmCo magnets are made from an alloy of samarium and cobalt and are available in two main types: SmCo₅ and Sm₂Co₁₇. They offer high coercivity and retain their magnetic properties at temperatures up to 350 °C – and even higher in specialized applications.

Common applications include high-temperature motors, sensors, aerospace, medical technology, and defense systems. Due to their brittleness and higher cost, SmCo magnets are typically used where performance under extreme conditions is critical.
